Vancouver’s Carleton School and the WWII War Effort

In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited Canada to bolster trans-Atlantic support in the event of a war arriving in Vancouver on May 29. When the Royal schedule was publicized, plans were rapidly made for Vancouver’s Carleton School students to view the Royal motorcade. A stand was built in front of the school’s main gate along Kingsway with a large welcome banner. Although there was no scheduled stop at Carleton school in the official royal program a beautiful bouquetwhen the King saw a little girl on the stand with a bouquet of flowers, he gave orders for the car to stop.
