AN ordinary car battery relies on a chemical reaction to provide a current, which is used by the starter to crank the engine. That’s what the battery means to the average car owner: it produces the voltage needed to start the engine and that’s about it.
A battery has additional functions, though, like providing additional power when the supply from the charging system isn’t up to the task. It usually lasts for five years, but it can be as little as three. Replacing it requires nothing more than a quick trip to your local auto parts store and a spanner.
