FLOWER FLASH

As Sue Hudson had a Mexican theme for Christmas, she borrowed some cacti to add to the atmosphere. She said: “I realised one was about to flower, but had no idea when. I set the alarm every three hours during the night so I wouldn’t miss the show. No luck the first night, but on the second night I was rewarded with it opening around midnight. By the morning it was still slightly open and the bees were having a field day. I’ve never really been into photographing flowers, but the cacti have inspired me. I now have a few of my own and am looking forward to future flowerings. I adjusted shadows and highlights in Lightroom to get rid of the grungy brick wall behind it. Unfortunately I couldn’t control the background as the bees would have been disturbed. Will work on that one next time!”
