SYNC OR SWIM A Content-pedagogy Manifesto

This column has had a pretty standard structure until now: (a) present problem; (b) present solution in the form of an app or website that is (hopefully) free and (usually) device-agnostic; (c) direct snide swipes at deputy principals (primarily there as stand-ins for ‘that’s what we’ve always done’ educational policy); (d) dive deep into solution; and (e) offer ‘how-to’ on solution.

The columns basically write themselves. They’re pretty reliant on new and useful technology being introduced over the course of the year in order for me to have something to cover, but we’ve been chugging along okay. The market consolidation of companies like Google, Microsoft and Adobe does mean that there is a skew in their direction, but otherwise there is usually enough going on in technology that can be applied to education. There’s plenty happening in the lead-up to this issue, too – I’m writing this in the last quarter of 2019, the part of the year refers to as ‘tech season’. It’s when all the new devices are announced from the big tech players: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Adobe all have big events (as do all the other manufacturers and developers). I want to use this issue to take a step back, though, and look at a bigger concept that exists across educationand .
