“The company was originally started by my great-grandfather Peter Tennant using a horse and cart,” John explained. “He would collect and deliver a variety of goods round his home village of Forth and take them to the old railway station at Wilsontown.”
The family was quick to recognise the potential of the new age of motorized vehicles, and Peter soon acquired a charabanc. The light commercial was a dual-purpose vehicle, which carried cargo throughout the week and passengers at weekends. This was a business model that would serve the Tennant family for many years.
By the 1930s, Peter’s two sons Peter Jnr and Tom had joined the business, assisted by sisters Nance, Cath and May. They ran a coach fleet alongside the road transport business, which remained in operation until the mid-1990s.
