MERCEDES A-CLASS FROM $35,900

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class starts at $35,900 for the 90kW 1.6-litre turbopetrol/seven-speed automatic/frontwheel-drive A180. It’s then a big hike to the A200, at $41,800, with a more powerful 115kW version of the 1.6-litre engine, as tested here.

The A200 CDi 100kW 1.8-litre turbodiesel is priced at $42,300.
