SHOWS, SNOW & SUMMER HOLIDAYS
The weather today on Labour Saturday is just perfect, with snow-capped Tararua mountains in the distance. We are in Martinborough for a few days leaving Caspar here on his home turf to be dog sat while we head across to Melbourne for a bit of work, a bit of horse play at the Melbourne Cup, a factory visit or two and catch-ups with the Rock’s family and friends. I do love going to Melbourne, especially staying in the city for a couple of days and getting to be part of the fabulous vibe that is Melbourne central. It will be a nice change of pace – we have been head-down butt-up for months now with all the changes and other activities going on in our lives.
We went to the V8 Super Car racing at Pukekohe in September – bit hard to miss as we live just down the road. What a great fun event for those of us who have a bit of petrol head in us, Rocky was well pleased and spent hours there over a couple of days.
The NZMCA Motorhome Caravan and Leisure show in mid-September was a ripper. It has to be acknowledged that Mystery Creek is just the best place in the North island for this type of event. Record numbers of RVers (for new readers that’s people with motorhomes, caravans, buses, Unimogs, fifth-wheels or campervans) came to stay on-site. The final tally was just over 1600 I believe, but those in the NZMCA will know exactly. It was quite a sight from the top of the hill driving down into the carpark which is a great size – no problem for visitors to this venue getting a park.
The RV industry was on display in force, and the readers made sure they said ‘Hi’ as well. These shows are so great for connecting with readers as well as the RV industry family, though it is often so frantic from 9am to close that we are all exhausted by 5pm and talked out from the day.
