The EV movement needs a poster star, a car that spikes our collective “I need one of those” sense, and offers transportation in an affordable package. For too long, EV design has conformed to a “Look at me – I’m different” aesthetic, but for EVs to genuinely make the shift to mass market, we need one we can fall in love with.

So when Honda revealed the concept-car perfection that was the Honda Urban EV at the Tokyo show in 2017, the world started paying attention... and hoped that the migration from concept to reality wouldn’t dilute the proposition. It’s fair to say the levels of expectation in the nondescript German photographic studio in advance of the reveal of the car ahead of its Geneva debut were high.
