Bamboozled by DNA tests: Amnio or CVS?

THERE’S MUCH CONFLICTING information online about amniocentesis versus chorionic villus sampling (CVS) tests. Often, the information coming from America isn’t even available in South Africa, and this leads to even more confusion.

You will read the opinions of internationally renowned hospitals and listen to obstetricians and gynaecologists speaking about them on video. You may have heard American doctors speaking about vaginal CVS – usually not even mentioned by publications in this field.

Does the American ob-gyn mean “cervical” CVS? Or is vaginal another method only Americans have? What do they recommend, and what are the costs? Best to ask the local healthcare practitioners and professionals.
