The Aquatic Center

There was room to be more creative with the form of this sports facility, unlike that of the Athletic Stadium, whose shape was constrained by the many prescriptions of the International Association of Athletics Federations. Budji+Royal Architecture+Design, therefore, wanted an iconic Aquatic Center that would bring verve to New Clark City’s sports complex; something people would easily recognize.

However, like the Athletic Stadium they designed, the Aquatic Center needed to be constructed within a tight timeline and budget. So there was quite a debate getting the general contractor’s engineers to agree to Budji+Royal’s 90-meter columnless span for the tessellated steel roof.
