By 1905, the British Army had adopted and widely issued the Wolseley pattern sun helmet for use in tropical stations. At that time, the Royal Marine Artillery (RMA) and Royal Marine Light Infantry (RMLI) adopted a white “colonial pattern” helmet at home and overseas, thereby making it a “Universal Pattern Helmet.”
