INDIE SPOTLIGHT
If had done nothing else in her career, her association with the sadly underrated Textones would have still assured her revered stature within the Americana community. In the time since the band’s initial break-up, Olson has spent her time productively courtesy a series of highly rated solo albums and durable partnerships with others, most significantly the late, free-flying Byrd Gene Clark and Rolling Stones estranged axeman Mick Taylor. As a producer and contributor, her credits include some of the most enduring artists in popular music, asserting the fact she travels in hallowed circles. Olson’s latest outing, The Hidden Hills Sessions, finds, a singer/ songwriter who clearly shares her admiration for songs borne from Laurel Canyon domains and iconic influences that possess a ‘60s and ‘70s pedigree. Covers of “Wild Horses,” Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” and Gene Clark’s “In a Misty Morning” attest to that fact as does the duo’s knack for recreating sounds of a vintage variety. Taken in tandem with the Textones’ recent reunion, The Hidden Hills Sessions proves Olson’s resolve remains as highly tuned as ever.
