WHO Back Story

GM: Since the ‘60s Pete Townshend has worked in his own home studio painstakingly cutting fully realized versions of songs for The Who or his solo endeavors. With WHO, Pete also delivered fleshed out versions of the songs. What was the process involved taking the recordings presented by Pete and augmenting them?

Well, Pete is an unbelievable songwriter. To me, the songs were well realized. I just think it was a question of taking what he’s done. He’s always focused on the song and then he works with incredible players and reacts to how they interpret the songs. Of all the songwriter/producer/artists I’ve worked with, and I’ve worked with a lot over the years, he’s the most generous and defensive of players’ instincts. So I think considering
