THE WHO

WHO

Interscope Records (CD, LP, Cassette)

This is the twelfth studio album in The Who’s long and storied career, and the listener will certainly hear some echoes of their past work in several of the tracks. album. Musically, “Ball and Chain” brings to mind the 1972 single “Relay.” “Street Song” could have been an outtake from Pete Townshend’s 1985 album. The strings and Townshend’s lead vocal on “I’ll Be Back” will remind ardent fans of his 1977 album. And the truly outstanding “Rockin’ In Rage,” the highlight of the album, sounds like a great lost track from 1973’s . Right or wrong, new recordings by veteran bands will always be compared to their best work from the past. This album can certainly hold its own in The Who’s catalog.
