Heating your outdoor space isn’t just about keeping the family toasty warm in winter or taking the chill out of the air on a crisp autumn evening. With our decks, pergolas, cabanas and alfresco entertaining spaces now being designed as outdoor rooms, aesthetics and ambience is often just as important as functionality. We spend a lot of money on our outdoor living areas so we want heating solutions that are efficient, complement our decor and make us — and our guests — feel nice and cosy.

FLICKER OF FLAMES

The firepit really has become a must-have inclusion in designed outdoor spaces. It can add a dash of drama, make a design statement or serve as a gathering point when entertaining. Most tend to be bowl-shaped, but there is a surprising degree of variety between designs. Some “bowls” are deep, others shallow (like a wok); some sit on ornate legs, some on short bases to keep them low to the ground and others on plinths. Then there are the architectural offerings such as the newly released Ring FirePit from The Melbourne Fire Brick Company. The bowl is made from stainless steel and hangs inside a “ring” of black industrial-strength steel.
