Tahr thrills amid the big chill

Living in Australia, the planning for this trip across the Tasman began over a 12-month period, firstly with an enquiry to an NZ outfitter who organises hunts throughout New Zealand on a variety of animals. As luck would have it, one of the boys rang me and extended an invitation to join him and another mate with the very same guide chasing tahrs and chamois in the peaks of the West Coast mountains of New Zealand’s South Island.

Before the hunt, I decided to fly over a week early and holiday with my partner Emily because at the time she was slightly sidetracked from her hunting as she was carrying our first child. We spent the week going from Christchurch down to Queenstown and everywhere in between. Emily
