The Weatherby New Mark V Weathermark
The first of Roy Weatherby’s flatshooting, high-velocity Magnum calibres was introduced way back in 1945. The Weatherby company grew rapidly as innovation followed innovation and the name became synonymous with extreme velocity, longrange sporting calibres. Roy is gone, but the Weatherby brand continues to expand and deliver the sort of calibres and rifles that serious hunters demand.
Weatherby introduced its famous Mark V action in 1958. Designed specifically for Weatherby’s powerhouse Magnum calibres it was, and remains, the strongest boltaction in the world. Weatherby has recently reworked its Mark V action. The new design retains the strength of its predecessor but, with greater modern knowledge and materials, it achieves significant weight savings while still being able to handle the pressures of Weatherby’s Magnum calibres. Weatherby’s rifles are manufactured at the Paso Robles facility in California. Tasco Sales Australia provided Australian Hunter the opportunity to review one of the New Mark V Weatherby rifles in the form of the lightweight Weathermark in a .308 Winchester chambering.
