BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” Twenty-two years since his passing, and I can still hear Dad saying that, which is precisely why almost no one knew that I’d bought my little Toyota Levin 2KCup circuit car five years ago. Say nothing, and if my driving is complete shit, I can quietly sell it again, leaving minimal evidence of the failure of my late-in-life crack at circuit racing.
Season one proved nothing about my driving ability but everything about my stubbornness. It would have been easy to give up. Two race meetings in, I sensed that the engine wasn’t revving like it should, backed out of it, and drove it quietly back into the pits to hear, as I removed my helmet, the unmistakable ‘knock-knock-knock’ of a set of knackered big-end bearings.
