UNIVERSAL DISC PLAYER ARCAM FMJ UDP411
Arcam started life as a hi-fi manufacturer and despite the fact that it now has half-a-dozen products in its range that spill into the audio/video or ‘home theatre’ sphere, it’s still predominantly a hi-fi manufacturer and has a two-channel ‘high fidelity’ philosophy… which is demonstrated by the FMJ UDP411’s strengths… and its weaknesses.
EQUIPMENT
It’s billed as a ‘Universal’ disc player, though being finnicky we might mention that there are two disc types not supported. First are DVD-Audio discs, to our minds not a particularly big issue since DVD-A is pretty much a failed format. And nor, of course, does it play next year’s new 4K Blu-ray format, but then nothing on the market yet does.
So that aside, what the UDP411 does do .mkv or Divx files, but you can play back .mkv files via a USB drive.) Audio file support is rather limited: MP3, WMA and FLAC.
