    South Africa’s vast wealth of biodiversity is constantly under pressure and often calls for some form of protection and preservation, and from time to time even intervention. This is a massive responsibility that we trust conservation agencies with, expecting them to ‘get it done’. This task can have huge practical limitations that the state conservation bodies may find difficult, if not impossible, to deal with on their own.

    To avoid these limitations on functional conservation, there is a very real need for sectors to work together. A perfect case is the Cape mountain zebra (Equus zebra zebra), a subspecies that was saved from extinction through this type of collaboration. >>
