Grow your own green beans

Growing your own green beans affords you the wonderful luxury of harvesting them young when they are still sweet and tender. This is particularly handy when you’re trying to get youngsters to eat more fresh vegetables or when trying to convince a green-bean hater to give it another try. For me, it’s best enjoyed right there in the garden!

Beans are really some of the easiest and most rewarding vegetables to grow. They’re legumes, which means they have a beneficial relationship with a nitrogen-fixing bacteria called rhizobia. These bacteria are encased in nodules on the roots where they pass atmospheric nitrogen to the plants
