Prepare for the Magnum Air Rifle Competition

THE AIR RIFLE Competition scheduled for 29 February 2020 at the Eeufees Shooting Range in Pretoria, hosted by Magnum, Safari Outdoor, Air Arms and Bushill RSA, will be for production, springer or PCP air rifles available over the counter at any local gun shop. Events will take place at distances from 18 to 100m. Here are some preparatory suggestions.

Preparation begins with deciding what ammo to use and thoroughly familiarising yourself with your equipment.

Rifle: Ensure that your rifle is in top working order: all the valves sealing properly, all the screws tight, and so on.

All air rifles manifest “preferences” for certain pellet weights and designs. To determine which pellet is most accurate in your rifle you need to shop around and try out all those available. Having made your choice, inspect all the pellets carefully; discard any that look different – distorted skirts or heads – such inconsistencies adversely affect accuracy. Test your pellets
