10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT... THE ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was built from 1965 until 1980, and sold a total of around 30,000. This was six times as many cars as the previous Silver Cloud model, so it was a success by anyone’s standards. The elegant and understated body was designed by John Blatchley, who had also been responsible for the larger and more voluptuous Silver Cloud. He was treading a fine line with confidence and talent, because Rolls-Royces need to be reasonably up to date, but they also need to be reassuringly old-fashioned. When new, they were generally bought by the financially and chronologically mature, although the current new BMW RRs seem to attract youthful Chinese gangsters.
