10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT... LOTUS ESPRIT S1-S3

Lotus had decided to build a mid-engined model to take over from the Europa as early as 1970, but couldn’t afford to develop that at the same time as a front-engined replacement for the Elan +2S, (that one became the Elite,) so initial progress was slow. Eventually, a modified Europa chassis was given to Giorgetto Giugario of Ital Design in 1971. The fruits of these endeavours were displayed on Giugario’s stand at the Turin Motor Show in November 1972, alongside his Maserati Boomerang vision of the future.
