Intermediate Lesson

Inspiration and motivation: two things that each have a dramatic effect on our musical progress. Without a goal or deadline to work towards, finding fresh catalysts for inspiration can be tedious. However, two studies that have never let me down in my hour of need are permutations, and time signatures. The former allow me to rediscover habitual vocabulary and view it from a different melodic perspective, and the latter prevent me from overusing the same old rhythmic patterns.
