PRIVATE investigator Hal Spear opened up the morning’s paper and breathed in the scent of a freshly printed edition still warm from the press. Biddy’s Bingo Battle was splashed across the front page.
“Must be a slow news day,” he drawled, flicking forward to the cryptic crossword. He wondered if he could complete today’s in his usual 20 minutes.
Hal was on his way to the to help put editor Merve Tullock’s mind at ease. He and Hal had been friends since university – they were real student radicals, protesting against anything and everything.
