BIGGER SHIPS = DEEPER CHANNEL
That’s the message from Ports of Auckland. It points out that Auckland’s rapidly-increasing population is projected to add a million more people to the city by 2050. That translates into greater demand for imported products – with more containers arriving on bigger ships. Currently, those ships cannot enter Auckland’s harbour because the existing shipping channel is too shallow.
