Water from Heaven

Located at an altitude of 5,136 metres, Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world. A part of this sacred lake remains unfrozen at sub-zero temperatures in the northeastern mountain ranges of India as howling winds pierce through the barren mountains. The Lepcha people, who are the original inhabitants of Sikkim, call it Nyemae-el, which means ‘paradise’.
