Corfu, the most northerly of the seven Greek Ionian islands, is situated nearer to the coast of Albania than that of Greece. Liberally scattered with silver-leaved olive groves and punctuated with soaring spires of pencil cypress trees (Cupressus sempervirens), the island enjoys clement temperatures and relatively high rainfall (around 47 inches per year) that result in a fertile landscape ideal for gardeners. No wonder, then, that Corfu is often referred to as the Garden Isle.
