LAMAR BUMBAUGH knew where the ginseng grew—but he wasn’t telling. This portly herbalist, rare bookseller and pure Pennsylvania Dutchman was known locally as Mountain Bummy. His antiquarian store on the main street in Kutztown was a trove of Pennsylvania German culture.
