Back in 1986, when Safer Motoring magazine had become VW Motoring, 21 members of the London Centre of VWOC (GB) set out on a memorable trip to what was, after Germany, the second Mecca of Beetle production. As editor, I had arranged for a report on this ambitious two weeks of immersion in the Mexican VW scene.
