While certain states have adopted nativist, isolationist rhetoric, the art world has found that it pays to have an international outlook. From the homegrown Art Fair Philippines to Asia’s premier fair, Art Basel Hong Kong, offering a breadth of international artists at varying price points brought solid results.

Art Fair Philippines (AFP) (February 22–24) returned to the Ayala Center’s multilevel carpark, the Link, in Makati City, drawing nearly 30,000 visitors to its seventh edition. Thirty-six Philippine galleries participated alongside 16 participants from other Asian countries.
True to its aim of spotlighting Philippine art, AFP’s Projects sector restaged David Medalla’s participatory textile work (1968/2019) and the late conceptualist Ray (1974).
