I bet for many, the Akai MPC name conjures up hip hop with classic gear like the MPC2000 or, more recently, the Ableton connection via the APC40 and the original Push.
The hip hop association isn’t always helpful –not everyone shopping for gear is a hip hop producer; combine that with a need to show technological parity, and maybe we have the forces that motivated Akai to produce the MPC Touch, a control surface for MPC software with 16 pads, an audio interface and a 7-inch diagonal, full colour multi-touch display.
I’ve used Live and Logic for some time to make electronic and guitar music but no hip hop, so I don’t have any sentimental attachments to MPCs. It’s 2016, so what can this MPC do for me?
