The Art of Developing Big-Game Loads
WE should always keep a number of things in mind when we set out to build the most highly performing, effective big-game load. Most importantly, when we operate the bolt of a rifle, the cartridge must be mechanically perfect. It should slide easily off the magazine follower and enter the chamber smoothly without encountering the least resistance. It must fire when the trigger is pressed no matter whether the ambient temperature is sub-zero or plus 40C. And must not fail to fire even after being exposed to rain and snow for many days in the field.
Your reload must be flat shooting and accurate enough to reach way across a wide gully and land its bullet into the vital area of a big-game animal. When the bullet impacts, it must be capable of scoring a quick kill on animals ranging in size from a 45kg hog to a 270kg sambar.
Bullet Construction And Performance.
When setting out to assemble a big-game load, don't forget that bullet performance is your most important goal. Unless the bullet performs properly on the particular size of game once it gets there, you've simply been wasting your time. A
