Within Reach:The Wreck of Passenger Lake Steamer
oosehead Lake, located in the north Maine woods near the little town of Greenville Junction, is the largest lake in the state and largest mountain lake in the eastern U.S. It is almost forty miles long and covers an impressive 118 square miles. The home of several wrecks, its clear waters attract many divers who venture to this scenic corner in northern New England. Getting there is not all that easy up Route 15 out of Monson, but the trip is worthwhile. If you ever wanted to explore an easily accessible, wonderfully intact, and very interesting piece of history, this fits the bill.
