REMOVING JASMINE
I wonder if anyone has had experience of attempting to remove a jasmine invasion? Not realising quite how pernicious this stuff is in our Northland climate I rather ignored it for too long. Subsequently it has climbed 20–30 feet up several trees and formed an impenetrable mat covering large areas of the ground.
I have now undertaken a major assault in the form of a flamethrower, and nonindustrial weedkiller – a strong salt and vinegar solution. (I refuse point blank even to consider my local nursery’s instant ‘solution’ of Roundup.) My campaign is partially successful – I have cleared perhaps a quarter of the area, but certainly not killed the jasmine as it seems to be able to resprout from some amazingly dead-looking residue.
Has anyone discovered the equivalent of a companion plant that.
