Track down more free resources
The internet is packed full of free genealogy records – if you know where to look. FamilySearch is obviously a rich where you’ll find a surprising amount of detail (including the date and place of death, next of kin and value of their estate). This is assuming you’re of UK descent, but many other countries offer similar services.
