fter leaving the army in 1945, Leon Hume wanted to paint. Starting his working life in Melbourne at age 16, Leon’s career had begun in 1926 with two years at the wireless firm of Langford Pickles & Co., then three years of woodcarving with Dunne’s. After a brief and unsuccessful stint at the National Gallery of Victoria, he lived what must have been a precarious existence as a costume designer, before spending three years as a waiter.
