New York Barclay first opened its doors in 1926. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay (as it has become affectionately known) became one of four notable railroad hotels that was built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Being located conveniently above the railroad tracks, allowed for the hotel to have its own platform in the basement. This was an ideal and unique feature, especially for the upscale travellers who would occasionally arrive by private train car.
