FULLY RAD!

I SAY ULTRARUNNING IS ALL THE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF MOUNTAINEERING, BUT WITHOUT THE FEAR OF DEATH.
Brendan Leonard

Most of us who engage with the outdoors – be that running, climbing, skiing or a combination of all of these and more – do so enthusiastically. Our enthusiasm for our chosen pursuit may not necessarily mean that we are elite level athletes, however this doesn’t take away from our love, commitment and enjoyment of moving around in the trees.

This view is shared by Brendan P Leonard, the 38-year-old writer behind the Semi-Rad website (semi-rad.com): “I’m not a very high achieving outdoors person, I’m enthusiastic, but I’m not that good at things. I think a lot of people might be in that space, there’s five per cent of people at the top and then the rest of us.”

This refreshing approach to outdoor pursuits and the honest manner in which Brendan documents his life has seen the Semi-Rad website, with its descriptor “Humor, Essays, Adventure”, grow markedly in popularity. Brendan’s weekly essays, Friday Inspiration posts and the, in which he recounts how 23-year-old Brendan overcame his alcohol dependence and found his love of climbing and the wider outdoors.
