AT ONE POINT I SUNK IN MUD TILL ALMOST MY KNEE AND WHEN I TOOK THE NEXT STEP I WAS RUNNING IN MY SOCKS. WHEN I MANAGED TO GET TO THE TOP I WAS CURSING – THANKFULLY ITALIAN SOUNDS NICE EVEN IF YOU ARE CURSING!

With four days to go until the 100k race at the 2018 Tarawera Ultramarathon, I glanced at my bedside table and chuckled at the accidental motivation overload. My phone was playing Sia’s song ‘Unstoppable’, and happened to be lying on a book called Unstoppable, which was sitting on a (different) book, also called Unstoppable. Obviously the desperate optimism game was strong! Given the fever and headache I was enjoying, it was also completely out of touch with reality. Ultimately we are all stoppable.
