Forming part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area, Walls of Jerusalem National Park was proclaimed in 1981. It followed a decade of pressure to recognise and protect the conservation of Tasmania’s central high country. However, the region was first formally surveyed in the 1840s, with many features still bearing the original survey names, including Wild Dog Creek, Lake Adelaide and Bluff Point. Bushwalking became popular from the 1920s onwards, with recreational users sharing the area with possum trappers and cattle graziers.
