Globally concerns around digital privacy are growing. In October the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with the G20 presidency, has said it will lead a global effort to advance the responsible and ethical use of smart city technologies.
It says that more than 200,000 cities and local governments, companies, research institutions, and civil society organisations are represented and that it will set new global policy standards for privacy, security and sustainability of smart technologies.
And, it seems, digital security concerns in New Zealand are growing too. New research from global information technology company Unisys Corporation found that many New Zealanders hold strong privacy concerns about smart devices listening in on their conversations and organisations extracting personal information from their digital footprints.
