Into the Sahara part 2
Readers of my previous article will know that we visited Morocco during what turned out to be a one-in-ten-year rainy period.
And though by the time the events described in this article took place the rains had cleared and the oueds (which means normally dry river bed) had receded, the extensive damage to infrastructure and 4WD routes remained. Although we don’t shy away from putting our 4WD to real use, the many cut off and washed out 4WD routes posed ongoing issues on this trip, as you’ll soon see.
This article tells the story of our first expedition to Plage Blanche, where the Sahara Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Plage Blanche is an almost uninhabited stretch of the Moroccan coastline, about 320km (200 miles) south of Agadir. There are no roads and almost no infrastructure in the area – just an isolated stretch of beautiful and wild sandy beaches. Driving Plage Blanche has become part of a route popular with those on 4WD expeditions to Morocco.
