WHEN she was growing up there wasn’t much to do in her tiny village in Limpopo. There was just one TV serving the entire community and over weekends it was usually tuned to American WWE wrestling – but Maya Wegerif didn’t mind.
She and her friends would crowd around it, captivated – the hard-fought battles were so full of drama they put local soaps to shame.
There was one wrestler in particular who caught her eye: John Cena. She loved his plucky fighting spirit – so much so that when she and her friends played she’d pretend to be him.
