1 Next Girl to Die (Suspense/mystery, May, Thomas & Mercer)

“Solving the case will avenge her sister—unless the killer finds her first.” Lakeland, Fla. I was working on historical supernatural young adult projects. My agent recommended that I try my hand at romantic suspense and those led me to write this project. This book originally sold to a different publisher based on the synopsis/first chapter. It took me four weeks to write the draft of after that. I typically write drafts quickly, then a couple months editing. I found I had finished developmental edits with my first publisher and was waiting on feedback. My first publisher cut a significant portion of their list and canceled many contracts. was a casualty. My agent and I brainstormed and got it out on submission immediately. [Bradford] was able to sell it to Thomas & Mercer within two weeks. Taking my agent’s advice to write something different helped. was a culmination of challenging myself to write things I wasn’t comfortable with. I wish I’d been able to visit the island my book takes place on before writing it. I’ve completed the follow-up to , and I’m working on a historical fantasy, a psychological suspense and a YA historical fantasy.
