Art Nouveau Bookstand
In the digital world that we live in, there is something to be said for having a tactile item in your hands. (This magazine is a great example.) Having an item you can pick up, feel, and read through is something that a digital device has a hard time replicating. That’s where the idea behind this bookstand came from — a place to hold those large, heavy books that aren’t easily replaced.
ART NOUVEAU STYLE. Because the Art Nouveau style was popular only for a short peroid, it’s not often seen. The Art Nouveau style is defined by flowing, organic lines that would often make tight or drastic turns. The details of this book-stand embrace that style. Take a look at the stretchers and aprons. They all have an organic, curving shape to them and this same shape is carried over to the drawer front. The legs feature a gentle flare at the foot that anchors the stand to the ground. A bullnose molding wraps the stand case to tie the legs to the top.
VERSATILE DESIGN. As much as I like the romance of having a large, old book resting on the bookstand ready to have its pages flipped, I recognize that not everyone has a use for a bookstand. For that reason, we’ve designed the actual book-stand to be separate from the base. This way, you can turn the bookstand into an eye-catching side table or plant stand.
