‘My classes feel like you’ve been transported to an Indian bazaar’

GAUTAMI SEKSARIA lives with her husband and 12-year-old daughter. In her business, Bombay to Cape Town, she hosts immersive Indian cooking classes from her home in Green Point and at the nearby Marigold House.

✢ THE STARTING POINT I ran my own events company for many years, working in Mumbai and the Netherlands as my husband’s logistics job saw us relocating often. It was in the Netherlands that I started cooking for his colleagues, even teaching them to make some of the traditional Indian dishes our family ate all the time, which earned me a bit of extra cash. When we moved to Cape Town in 2012, I brought my events business with me, but soon realised what an appetite there is for authentic Indian cuisine in South Africa – everyone seems to love the rich aromas, textures and flavours. There was a ready market for Indian-inspired cooking classes, but I was nervous
