SHANNON SWEETMAN, 37, lives in Melkbosstrand with her husband Jonno, 38. She created the Dog Meets Girl Box, a quarterly subscription-box service where she fills special boxes with treats for dogs and dog moms.
* THE IDEA It started with my passion for taking dog portraits. In 2013, I took up photography under the moniker Dog Meets Girl, and as I progressed, my photography blog gained popularity, so I promoted my Instagram and Facebook pages as places where dog lovers could share happy stories about their pets. By early 2018, I noticed how Dog Meets Girl was no longer just a pet-photography business, but had blossomed into a social platform for a tight-knit community of dog moms. Conversations ranged from dog health and pet charities to tips on exercising with your pup. Inspired by the stories I read, I decided to treat the community and their pets by expanding my photography business with a unique lucky-packet subscription box curated just for them.
