Oklahoma publisher Casey Paxton never imagined unearthing a hidden basement beneath the downtown office of his weekly newspaper, The Cheyenne Star. Yet, what he found there one summer day in 1987 left him far more shocked.
On a tip from a prior resident Paxton broke through a cement wall into the sealed-off space. “I wouldn’t have gone down there, except I. Within he discovered fragments of human bones—hundreds of fragments. “I thought I saw a wooden bowl—you know, turned upside down—but it was the top part of a skull.”
